Where It All Started
My journey with painting started years ago as a hobby where I could express myself freely. However, Ann Rabinowitz Art truly came to be in 2021.
As a qualified professional in the medical field I was working at a hospital during the first wave of Covid-19. I found myself caught up in the midst of the chaos caused by this Pandemic. I experienced the suffering and the trauma and the sadness of people who lost loved ones.
Dealing with death left me feeling so overwhelmed and overcome with the emotional pain that I needed an outlet, a space to express myself. Before then, I was only painting on the very odd occasion, but at that point I needed something to help me deal with my inner anguish. My painting became that avenue.
From Grief to Colour

I witnessed deep suffering, trauma, and the heartbreak of people losing loved ones. Dealing with death on a daily basis left me feeling overwhelmed and emotionally drained that I needed an outlet, a space to express myself. Before then, I was only painting on the very odd occasion, but at that point I needed something to help me deal with my inner anguish. My painting became that haven.
What I Create and Why
My vision as an artist is to uplift and inspire, to spark joy, encourage reflection, and offer moments of beauty. Through my work, I hope to remind others to look for the brighter things in life.
My style is rooted in Abstract Expressionism and Pure Abstract, guided by emotion and instinct rather than form or instruction. I work primarily in acrylic on canvas, drawn to its fluidity and the bold vibrancy it allows. Colour, texture, and movement are the tools I use to communicate what words often cannot.
Based in Sunset Beach, Cape Town, I find inspiration in the natural world around me, from ocean tides to shifting light. Though I have never formally studied art, every stroke of the brush is an honest attempt to express what I feel, see, and experience.

The quote by Mark Rothko, “I approach my art instinctively without the guidelines of overbearing instruction,” perfectly reflects my own approach to painting.
Since establishing Ann Rabinowitz Art, I have had the opportunity to share my work through several exhibitions, including House Of_ First Thursdays, the Art SA Exhibition at Table Bay Mall and Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, as well as two solo exhibitions in Sunset Beach.
This journey has allowed me to discover peace, presence, and joy both through art and within myself. My hope is that others experience the same when they connect with the work I create.
